A humorous play that aims to show the futility of war and deals comedically with the hypocrisies of human nature, this was said to be Shaw's wittiest play. It pokes fun at the aristocracy, showing the servants and lower ranks to have more common sense and business acumen than the pompous Major in whose house the action takes place.
